Varsh shradha or first death anniversary is a Pooja done to pay respects to the person who passed away a year ago. This Pooja is done on the exact tithi or time when the person passed away. Elder son of the deceased person performs this Pooja. It is believed that after performing this Pooja the Pooja karta will get the blessings from the deceased one. If there is any pitru dosh then it will also get reduced after performing this ritual. The ritual is performed mainly by a Brahmin pandit. Pooja begins with panda daan which includes offering rice balls with ghee, curd honey and sugar to the deceased person. Later tarpan means offering til (black sesame) water and then Pooja ends with offering food to Brahmin.
